There’s just something about the whole Rio Nuevo project that just….
Maybe it is time to dump the whole deal and start with a really new idea to get a new hotel downtown and jump start its heart.
How about this: apparently Native Americans can buy land in a city, have the land declared part of their reservation, and then build a hotel and a casino on the property.
The Tohono O’odham Nation is trying to build a 600 room resort hotel and casino in Glendale. That city is opposing the O’odham effort.
So why doesn’t Tucson offer up the hotel site to the Tohono O’odham?
If the O’odham don’t want to develop the site there’s the Yaquis and even the Apaches.
Think about it. Not only would Tucson get a big fancy hotel, it would get a casino right there in downtown. Talk about your convention attraction.
What do you think?
