Inside ATF…an ugly picture …how many dead bodies are out there as a result of Project Gunrunner?

Anyone interested in the growing scandal involving how ATF apparently looked the other way while guns were being sold that ended up in the hands of Mexican drug cartels and the bandits that shot Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry should visit CleanUpATF.org … a web site where ATF agents share their views.

Managers, Counsel, Internal Affairs and staff of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (BATFE or “ATF”) have repeatedly given false testimony, concealed substantial waste, fraud and abuse, abused their lawful authority, and waged systematic campaigns of reprisal against their own employees that dare to speak out. This website is intended by members of the ATF community to promote restoration of integrity, accountability and responsibility to ATF’s leadership, and regain the trust of the American taxpayer.

There is obviously a very professional and dedicated bunch of ATF agents who are seriously disturbed about games being played by their management.

The whole emerging scandal about Project Gunrunner…where ATF was actually setting up gun dealers to sell guns to people who should not have been sold guns, so ATF could track the guns into Mexico…is really …can’t even think of the right word to convey my shock and anger.

OK…one could argue it is useful to see the flow of guns and nail the “straw” purchasers. But the effect has been to compromise gun shops and allow hundreds of weapons to end up in Mexico.

The frightening thought is how many other dead bodies do we have in Mexico on top of the body of Agent Terry?

How many other guns that floated through the ATF scheme were tied to murders on both sides of the border?

Senator Charles Grassley has been making an amazing effort to expose what’s going on…and  is being stonewalled by ATF and high ranking Obama Administration officials in the process.

Meanwhile we have one federal law enforcement agency in pursuit of its mission in a manner that has already cost the life of another federal law enforcement official from a sister agency. This violates a very fundamental trust within the entire law enforcement community. That’s why there is so much anger boiling up from the ranks.

Also…Sipsey Street Irregulars and Dave Codrea  have done an extraordinary job in digging up the the truth about all this.

Meanwhile the national media is strangely silent.

Note: As those who read View From Baja Arizona know, I am not a hard line 2nd Amendment advocate….I come from a place where I think a lot of law enforcement related people come from in that I just do not see justification for everyone to be buying semi-automatic weapons with extended clips I supportt having 100% of gun sales subject to background checks includiong gun show sales and  I support development of a better mental health id program and national listing  to prevent guys like Loughnber from buying a weapon.

My main reason for that is I have worked in tandem with law enforcement folks all my career and I have many law enforcement folks in my family.

But that being said, I think the groups that are digging at the ATF scandal are absolutely right-on and I am very happy to link up with Sipsey and others to protect the lives of our law enforcement folks. I do not ever want to find out my sister or nieces or anyone else carrying a badge or anyone else period  was gunned down by a weapon ATF allowed to get into the hands of the bad guys.

We have common ground here…and the country is better when people of different starting points on issues can work together where there is common ground.
